A herd of elephants is a symbol of life and continuity, always welcoming new calves into their protective family circle. Elephant babies are naturally playful and joyful, exploring their surroundings with innocence. In this moment, the young calf suddenly realized that its group had moved ahead. What followed was pure magic-the baby turned and ran excitedly across the water to rejoin the herd. The splash of the stream, the calf's energetic stride, and the urgency in its tiny steps beautifully capture the emotions of a baby returning to the safety of its family. This frame celebrates the joy, freedom, and strong bonding of elephant herds in the wild.

Desalanka Sai

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh)

About Photographer
Myself Sai Rahul from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and I am a passionate wildlife photographer dedicated to capturing the untamed beauty of nature. For me, photography is not just about taking pictures but about telling stories of the wilderness, conserving biodiversity, and inspiring people to connect with the natural world. I spend countless hours in forests, wetlands, and coastal habitats to observe animals in their natural environment, waiting patiently to freeze those fleeting moments that reveal their raw essence and behavior. Each image I create is a blend of artistic vision, technical skill, and deep respect for wildlife. Growing up near the Eastern Ghats and Bay of Bengal has given me a unique perspective on landscapes and species diversity, which I strive to showcase through my lens. My goal is to spread awareness about the importance of protecting our fragile ecosystems while celebrating the extraordinary life forms that share our planet.

Gir National Park (Gujarat) -That morning in Gir, our guide whispered that a new male had invaded the territory. Moments later, we saw her — a lioness silently leading her cubs away from everything she once ruled. She left behind her land, her comfort, her certainty… but not her purpose. Her cubs followed with innocent confidence, unaware of the storm their mother was shielding them from. To them, the world still felt safe because she was there. That’s the strength of a mother — fierce enough to confront danger, gentle enough to make her cubs feel brave. These are the Asiatic lions of Gir: rare, resilient, and alive because of sacrifices like hers.
