Picture Details

Boro Maa, the regal queen of the Sundarban mangrove forest, was returning to the sub-adult cubs she had left on a small island known locally as Chhota Island. Eager to reunite with them, she crossed canal after canal in the Pirkhali 5 island. While navigating one of these waterways, she glanced in my direction, making it unmistakably clear that she had sensed my presence. Witnessing her in that moment was profound—my very first encounter with a tiger in the wilds of the Sundarbans.

It was my first and only encounter with the Common Hawk Cuckoo. Despite their name, I dont think they are that easy to find. Anyway, I saw this guy jumping around on the forest floor foraging for seeds from the fallen Siris flowers. I laid down on my stomach to get some eye-level shots of it but I never expected it to jump straight towards me, giving me this wonderful portrait.
