The Divine dive! They say when a Paradise Flycatcher dives, even the bird species come to a standstill and appreciate its divine dives. Every dive was scintillating to watch with water splashing all across the diving points and the mesmerizing feathers and tail waving with magical formations. This beautiful moment was observed while the waiting game was on with fresh pug marks of a tiger nearby and it was all worth in the fairytale jungles of Tadoba National Park.

Nature has a way of surprising us when we least expect it. This story is a testament to that. On a cloudy morning, we set out on an expedition to photograph a specific bird species. Everything was meticulously planned—arriving at the location on time, setting up equipment, and patiently waiting for the perfect shot. But, as if nature had its own agenda, the skies opened up, and a downpour began. Seeking shelter, we stumbled upon a small Ganesha temple and waited for the rain to subside. With time on our hands, we turned to a casual game of testing our phone cameras. That’s when a little marvel of nature caught our attention: a tiny snail, precariously perched on a slender branch, hanging under the dense canopy. The light was sparse, filtering softly through the leaves, creating an otherworldly ambiance. "In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary." And this moment proved just that. We experimented with macro photography on our phones, and the result was nothing short of stunning. The interplay of the backlit snail, the intricate bokeh, and the delicate framing brought the scene to life. It was as though nature whispered, “Here’s a masterpiece for your patience.” What began as a quest for birds turned into an unexpected celebration of small wonders. This image, captured with a Google Pixel, stands as a reminder that “Nature never disappoints; it always finds a way to surprise.” Sometimes, the unplanned detours lead us to the most magical destinations.

Sri Ganesh Bailupudi

Chennai (Tamil Nadu)

About Photographer
This is Sri Ganesh Bailupudi, a Chennai based wildlife photographer. A software engineer by profession and a photographer by passion. I am a native of Andhra Pradesh, but brought up in Chennai. Choosing wildlife over other genres of photography is because of the diversity and unpredictability, understanding nature and its emotions is beautiful. The exciting part is you have to be agile and prepared for surprises that the nature has for you. The forests calm me more than anything else, spending time in the wild and experiencing moments through eyes, and if lucky enough, capture them through my lens.

Sub-adult Leopard from Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The stare tells you all about the curiosity in which this leopard was looking at us. At first we did not see the leopard which was hidden behind the fallen wooden log but all of the sudden the head pops up and within few seconds of the leopard staring at us, just vanished behind the bush like a ghost. It was unbelievable experience to see a leopard in its habitat.
