Spectacle Cobra The spectacle cobra (Naja naja), also known as the Indian cobra, Asian cobra, or binocellate cobra, is a species of highly venomous snake in the cobra family (Elapidae). It is native to the Indian subcontinent, and is a member of the "big four" species that are responsible for the most snakebite cases in India. Spectacle cobras are medium-sized snakes, with adults typically growing to lengths of 1.5-2 meters (5-6 feet). They have a slender body with a distinctive hood that they can expand when threatened. The hood is created by the expansion of the ribs on the snake's neck. Spectacle cobras are typically brown or black in color, with a distinctive pair of "spectacles" on the back of their hood. The spectacles are actually enlarged scales that resemble eyes. It is believed that the spectacles may be a deterrent to predators, as they may make the snake appear larger and more dangerous than it actually is.

We had been waiting near a carcass since our safari started, as our guide was sure that this was the place to be at. It was the last remaining hour and we had only moved in circles around the same place looking for any signs to convince us to stay put. Finally our guide's brilliance paid off and Collarwali's three sub-adult cubs walked right towards our lone jeep. After spending some time sitting on the road the cubs went in towards the carcass and one of them decided to have some evening snack. This was a composition which I had in mind for a long time to make, and luckily for me, the tiger stared into my eyes through the lens and into my soul while devouring his meal. Behold, a captivating glimpse into the world of Bhanushkindi's cub. Amidst the verdant wilderness, a majestic feline, draped in stripes of elegance, graces the tranquil waters encircled by a verdant tapestry of vines and foliage. The jungle's symphony weaves a harmonious melody as the cub, a vision of fluid grace, stoops to drink from the reflective oasis. The sunlight, filtered through the thick foliage, illuminates the cub's fur, a resplendent sight to behold. The camera, poised in patient anticipation, captures a moment of wonder as the cub turns towards its observer, eyes alight with playful curiosity. Its whiskers, shimmering with droplets of water, paint a picture of untamed existence. Enveloped by the lush foliage and vines, the image immortalizes the cub's delicate bond with its natural habitat, a testament to the magic of the wild. May this moment etched in time, bear witness to the wondrous harmony between this elusive tiger and its untamed realm.

Syed Masood Shah Khan

About Photographer
An IT professional by destiny and a passionate photographer by heart is how I would like to chronicle myself. Born in an era when the internet hadn’t boomed and having a computer was a luxury, I was fortunate enough to witness nature unfiltered. My love for natural, scenic beauty pestered me to purchase my first gear a decade ago, and the rest is history. I started by capturing the natural beauty around my vicinity, which provisioned me to take guided tours in the wild. My love for mother nature in our beautiful country has given me some of my best shots. I have wishful thinking that my work would enlighten people to work towards achieving a balanced ecosystem and being a drop in the ocean required to conserve the wild.
