I came to Paar carrying a long held dream. The forest filled every sense before the tigress appeared. She sat at the water's edge, bold and unhurried. But the Ramganga stretched wide. The bank rose high. Root and rock and green canopy stacked above her. In the frame, she was small. One animal inside an entire ecosystem. Corbett does not just show you a tiger. It shows you how much forest it takes to keep one alive.

Guarded by watchful parents : The photograph captures a pair of adult Lesser Whistling Ducks escorting their brood of ducklings across the calm waters of Purbasthali (Chupi Char) in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal. Parental Care: Unlike many duck species where only the female rears the young, Lesser Whistling Ducks form strong monogamous pair bonds, and both parents actively participate in protecting, guiding, and escorting their ducklings. Plumage Characteristics: The adults display their characteristic warm rufous-chestnut underparts, slender erect necks, pale buff faces, and dark grey bills. The downy ducklings sport their distinct black-and-white striped juvenile pattern, which provides camouflage among aquatic weeds. Habitat: Purbasthali's oxbow lake on the floodplains of the Ganges is an internationally recognized wetland haven, providing ideal conditions—rich in submerged vegetation, snails, and insects—for resident waterbirds to breed and nurture their young.

SUDIP ROY

Kolkata (West Bengal)

About Photographer
Coming from an orthodox Bengali family from Kolkata, India, I recognised my passion for photography much later after I hit my 30s. Prior to that I was only an IT employee working for various MNCs for more than 12 years. I discovered my fascination for photography, especially for bird shots when I visited a bird sanctuary with a photographer friend in 2018. I immediately decided that I would want to delve deeper into the world of birds and wildlife. So I began working on my gear. Started from Canon Rebel-T5 with Tamron 150-600, currently I possess Nikon Z6iii , Z5ii and 180-600 Nikon Lensfor my genre of photography. With birding and wildlife comes a lot of traveling. So I started visiting remote Himalayan districts and forests in search of exotic birds and wild animals. Some days prove to be very fruitful and rewarding while some are not worth the time and energy invested. As it's the mantra of wildlife photography. No matter what, patience is the key till you find your lucky day.

About Photographer
Not much to say about me as photographer. I started to learn birds & wildlife photography since 2019 only, after my retirement from GOI service. I do not know when it has become a passion for me. Now I want to showcase my work and get critical comments from learned photographers to further learn and improve upon my photography skill. I have taken it as very constructive post retirement time pass. Photography in forests, wetlands and lake etc works like a meditation for me when I forget about the world's stress and feel fresh, happy and filled with energy.

"Finders Keepers, Flyers Eaters" A Common Hill Myna powers through a cool hill forest background, a ripe red fig locked firmly in its bill, heading somewhere private and non-negotiable. Yellow wattles gleaming, white wing patches flashing, this bird has one agenda and zero interest in sharing it. It found the fig, it claimed the fig, and it is now relocating the fig to a location where nobody else can find it. Outskirts of Mahananda WLS, Darjeeling foot hills.

Where the Mountains Breathe : In May 2022, while trekking from Gangotri to Tapovan, I experienced one of the most memorable wildlife encounters of my life. Amidst the rugged Himalayan landscape, a herd of Himalayan ibex appeared through clouds of dust, moving effortlessly across the steep slopes. I stood quietly, watching them navigate a world that has been their home for generations. The encounter reminded me that in the mountains, we are merely visitors. Sometimes, the most powerful wildlife moments come when we simply stop, observe, and let nature unfold before us. In Frame : Himalayan Ibex Location: Gangotri National Park, Uttarakhand Time : May, 2022

This image of Blue Tailed Bee Eater was clicked at Purbasthali, West Bengal during the sultry summer month of May 2026. Under the blistering hot sun I was keeping my cool and was patiently waiting for something interesting to happen. Then suddenly I saw this Bee Eater couple perched in the same branch. The moment I saw them gradually coming close to each other, I knew that was the moment. The green washed out background complimented the shot.

Ghautham R R

Bengaluru (Karnataka)

About Photographer
I am Gautham, and the wild is where I feel most alive. Armed with patience, instinct, and a camera, I chase light and life across India's most iconic tiger reserves — from the misty mornings of Pench to the dry teak forests of Tadoba. For me, wildlife photography is not just about the perfect frame — it is about earning it. Hours of waiting, reading the forest, trusting the guide's instincts, and surrendering completely to the unpredictability of nature. Every sighting is a story, every shot a memory carved in silence. Whether it is a sub-adult tigress sitting like a monk on a jungle track or a tiger commanding a rock at dawn, I have learned that the jungle rewards stillness above everything else. I do not go into the wild looking for photographs — I go looking for moments, and sometimes, if I am patient enough, the moments find me.

I am a wildlife photographer based in South India, dedicated to documenting the raw, unfiltered narratives of Indian fauna. Operating under the moniker "The Notorious JPEG," my work is an exploration of the subcontinent's dense jungles and rich biodiversity.
