At the Waterhole Location: Kabini, Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, Karnataka Date: December 2020 Story: As the winter evening temperature dropped and light started slipping through the canopy, a cold quiet settled over the forest. We sat waiting near a secluded waterhole, hoping her trail would lead her here before dark. She walked out from the shadowed brush, calm and unhurried, and dropped into a low crouch at the water's edge. As she lapped at the dark surface, the sharp click of the camera made her pause. She raised her head, locking her golden eyes straight into mine for a few quiet heartbeats, before dipping back down to drink.

The image shows a frog in a dynamic, almost dancing pose, stretching one hind leg backward with its toes spread out while standing on a wet rock. A small, dark brown frog with a pale, speckled underside and a large, glossy eye balances on a slick, reddish-brown rock in a dark environment. One hind leg extends dramatically backward, resembling a dance move or an acrobatic stretch. The low-key lighting highlights its textured skin, reflective toes, and the wet surface beneath it, creating a dramatic wildlife photograph.

This photograph was taken at Jawai Hills, Rajasthan. Initially I was focused on clicking a portrait of the leopard in its natural habitat. But after some time I was amazed to find local villagers going about their daily routine below even as the leopard continued to watch them from its vantage position above. There was total peaceful acceptance of each other's existence which I found extremely appealing. I decided to go as wide as possible to include the leopard and the villagers in the same frame to capture the essence of peaceful coexistence between man and animal.

The Concealed Presence: The Indian jackal peers through the paddy, its body hidden beneath the green blades. Only a faint outline betrays its presence, yet its gaze is unwavering, locked on the observer. Rain has just passed, leaving droplets sparkling across the field, turning the encounter into a moment of quiet intensity.

I’m a wildlife enthusiast with a camera always by my side. Photography is my way of connecting with nature—capturing those fleeting, unscripted moments that make the wild so magical. From the quiet stillness of a bird perched at dawn to the raw energy of animals in motion, I love preserving these stories through my lens. For me, it’s not about perfection, but about sharing the wonder of wildlife as I experience it.

Moorkere female was a magnificent tigress of Bandipur, and a devoted mother to four playful cubs. We were fortunate to sight her during the last monsoon season, surrounded by her little ones who brought the forest alive with their energy. With her calm strength and maternal grace, she was a guardian and nurturer, regal in her presence and tender with her cubs. A few months later, the whole of wildlife enthusiast community was bemoaning her disappearance, succumbing to the harsh realities of nature, and reminding of us how lucky we were for such a sighting.

Under the blazing summer sun, the river becomes more than just water, it becomes life. Legendary tigress P151 and her cubs find a moment of respite along the banks of the Ken River in Panna, where the cool water offers relief from the relentless heat. As temperatures soar, these precious river corridors become essential for survival, providing water, shade, and a chance to recharge before disappearing back into the forest. Earlier this year, during our boat safari, we met P151 and her both subadult cubs at different spots along the river bank.
