On a warm summer morning in Kanha, we came across a young tigress deep in the bushes, feeding on her kill. Knowing her patterns, we anticipated she would soon head to her favorite water body to cool off, and she did. What followed was a long, tense wait. Hours passed under the relentless sun as she lay in the water, her back turned to us, showing no sign of movement. Just as we were about to call it a day, a small herd of deer wandered into view, unaware of the predator lurking nearby. Two deer passed by safely, and the tigress didn’t budge, perhaps she hadn’t seen them. But as the third deer stepped into view, the moment changed. With a sudden burst of energy, the tigress lunged from the water, seizing the opportunity in a heart-stopping instant. Did she make the kill? We’ll never know. The chase disappeared into the dense undergrowth. But what a moment it was to witness. Nature’s drama, raw and unscripted, playing out right before our eyes.

About Photographer
A software engineer by profession, I’ve always found my true passion in the wild. My journey into the natural world began at the age of 10 during a family vacation to Kanha Tiger Reserve, an experience that left a lasting impression on me. Since then, my fascination with wildlife has only grown deeper. What started as a love for exploring national parks and observing wildlife gradually evolved into a creative pursuit. Today, I combine my technical background with a keen eye for nature, capturing the raw beauty and untold stories of the wild through my lens. Wildlife photography allows me to reconnect with that childhood wonder and share it with the world, one frame at a time.

The Shape of a Stalk ! This is what a hunt looks like before it begins. No chase. No sound. Just a tigress moving like she already knows the outcome. Each step measured. Each pause deliberate. Across the water, a sambar stood unaware. The gap was closing. Photographed in Dhikala, Corbett — in the Paar area. This is Paarwali, a tigress currently raising three cubs. She had walked across the pebbled riverbed, entered the water, and locked onto a sambar hidden deep in the bushes. We had to leave as our safari was nearing its end. When we returned that evening, we found what she left behind. The kill had been made.

Shantanu Anand

Bangalore (Karnataka)

About Photographer
I’m a wildlife photographer based in Bangalore, India, with a deep focus on documenting Indian wildlife in its truest form. My interest lies not just in capturing striking visuals, but in telling honest stories—of the land, the light, the silence, and the lives that exist within it. Over time, I’ve moved away from chasing clean, polished frames. I’m more drawn to the wild as it actually is—unpredictable, imperfect, and deeply real. I believe that every encounter, no matter how fleeting or chaotic, holds something worth paying attention to. My approach is simple: observe more than I shoot, and stay honest in how I present what I see. It’s not about perfection—it’s about staying true to the moment, and letting the wild speak for itself.

The tent web spider builds tent webs that have a horizontal orb web and a network of webs above it resembling a tent. The major tent part is made with lot of string attachments moving vertically and horizontally. The picture was taken from my home at Amballur, Thrissur, Kerala during last monsoon. During monsoon, everyday night after dinner I take my camera and roam around my garden to click pictures of frogs, spiders and other small insects. One day just after a heavy rain I saw the web moving in wind in the garden near our patio. The web was glowing in the garden light and was a beautiful frame with the spider waiting for its prey .
