Eclipsed Exotique... In June 2021, I caught a rather unique sight of a male Purple Sunbird at my home in Dehradun. Covered in streaks of yellow and vivid blue, it made quite a remarkable presence in the Mexican Firebush in the garden. It had been raining early in the morning, and the sunbird was busy preening and drying itself as the sun streamed in. My focus was mainly on the colours and the beautiful details of the feathers. It was fascinating to observe, how the breeding male's plumage was morphing from dark purple to its original, predominantly yellow form. I learned that this astonishing transformation marks the end of the breeding season in spring and the onset of monsoon. And rightly so, this period of change is called, the eclipse. Nature is truly, the art of God!

One cold foggy morning at Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur in the month of December 2021, I was in hurry to reach the point of Pelicans as told by some guides there. Suddenly, The Painted Stork came out with a big fish in its mouth, I stopped and composed this rare moment.

'Winged Wonder!' Amur Falcon in flight. This small falcon is a fascinating migratory raptor. It comes to India from Siberia and Northern China during the migration period and later flies over the Arabian Sea to reach Southern and East Africa. Studies show that this falcon flies almost 5000 kms non-stop over the sea...The longest overwater flight by any raptor. Just amazing! Location: Lonavala, Near Pune (Maharashtra), India. Reflection: On a summer afternoon towards the outskirts of Bangalore, this small water puddle was a relief for most of the birds. This woodpecker took his time allowing all the birds to go off and then came near the mini pool. As the water settled while he waited for other birds to off (as he wanted some privacy ), the still water had a clear reflection of him. Almost an 'Ulta Pulta'
