Sentinel of the High Peaks Perched upon a sunlit boulder, a Himalayan Marmot gazes across the snow-clad giants that define its world. In this fragile alpine wilderness, where survival is etched into stone and silence, the marmot stands as both resident and guardian. Its small frame against towering peaks is a reminder that even the humblest creatures carry the spirit of the mountains — resilient, watchful, and deeply bound to the high-altitude ecosystems they inhabit. Caption - THE HUNGER GAME Location - Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand, India Clicked on May 2022 Story - It was one of those heart-pounding moments in Corbett that I’ll never forget. I was watching quietly near the riverbank when the silence shattered—deer bolting in a frenzy, dust rising, and out of nowhere, a tiger burst forward, muscles coiled, eyes locked. The chase was raw, primal, and terrifyingly beautiful. The deer leapt desperately up the sandy slope, scattering in panic, while the tiger thundered behind, splashing through the stream. For a few seconds, everything felt frozen—time, breath, heartbeat. Witnessing such a raw battle of survival, so close, reminded me that in the wild, every second truly counts.

Built to Protect ! Mothers are the same everywhere. They protect. They watch. They carry more than just the weight of their young. This was my first — and so far only — trip to Gir National Park. It was the very last safari of the visit, and we weren’t expecting to see cubs this small at all. But then came a lioness with four of them — tiny, curious, restless. They played. They climbed over her. And eventually, they paused just long enough for this.

Shantanu Anand

Bangalore (Karnataka)

About Photographer
I’m a wildlife photographer based in Bangalore, India, with a deep focus on documenting Indian wildlife in its truest form. My interest lies not just in capturing striking visuals, but in telling honest stories—of the land, the light, the silence, and the lives that exist within it. Over time, I’ve moved away from chasing clean, polished frames. I’m more drawn to the wild as it actually is—unpredictable, imperfect, and deeply real. I believe that every encounter, no matter how fleeting or chaotic, holds something worth paying attention to. My approach is simple: observe more than I shoot, and stay honest in how I present what I see. It’s not about perfection—it’s about staying true to the moment, and letting the wild speak for itself.

Hidden Gem: It was a hot summer. The tiger was thirsty. It came down to side canal to quench its thirst as well as cool down its body. The tiger here looks like a true “hidden gem”—perfectly blending into the lush green foliage, with just its intense eyes and part of its face breaking the camouflage. The reflection in the still water adds to the mystery, almost doubling the aura of stealth. Photographed Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, Uttar Pradesh, India in May 2023.

Place: Kaziranga National Park, Assam, India Story Behind the Picture: On a misty morning in Kaziranga, as the grasslands slowly came alive with the calls of birds, I came across this heartwarming sight—two wild Asian elephants gently locking trunks. At first, it looked like a playful duel, but soon it was clear they were greeting each other in their own way, a gesture of bonding and companionship. When patience and instincts align, the forest rewards. After a series of dry safaris, hope was starting to fade. But on the very last day, just moments after entering the forest, a group of monkeys began giving out frantic alarm calls. Trusting my mentors Instinct we took the detour. And it paid off in the most spectacular way. There, hidden behind a pond in a small natural canal, stood Defender - one of Rajaji’s most elusive leopards, last sighted in December 2024 calmly drinking water. A rare, silent moment with a legend of the jungle.
