I took this photograph from Kaziranga National Park, Assam. During that time, a forest fire occurred, I think this may burn primarily as a surface fire, spreading along the ground as the surface litter (senescent leaves and twigs and dry grasses, etc) on the forest floor and is engulfed by the spreading flames. Or it may occur naturally. Certain plants and animals have evolved to depend on periodic wildfires for ecological balance. I see one Mother Rhino and her child eating grass without any fear.
